Computer parts manufacturers are also concerned about this subject so they are trying to optimize as much as they can the energy consumption of their pieces..........

My computer fan is deafeningly loud and runs all the time. I suppose it's costing me a mint. I'm thinking about changing just the fan to a quieter one. Would that be a good Idea?

I KNOW I should unplug my computer during lightening storms, but I always see storms as one of those delicious moments when no-one expects much of anything from me, and I can run to the computer and get something done. I usually spend lightening storms, which we have plenty of here in Japan, typing away on my computer. Some things are worth the risk - at least until your number comes up and the worst case scenario actually happens.

Excellent tips and the part about the lightning is true...my mom lives in an area that is prone to lightning and they've lost a few computer components to lightning strikes.

As for cell phones near your computer...I always hear beeping in my pc speakers just before my cell phone rings so there are definitely signals interfering between the two but nothing disruptive.

Magnets are not good around credit cards is that a myth too? I know its off the subject but it brings up a question. I used to demagnetize my old tv with a magnet and it helped. I had discoloration on the sides but was told if i get a strong magnet and slowly walk towards the tv in a circular motion it will remove the discoloration and it did.

Reminds me of the lady who called in for a replacement for her PC. She said she had been impressed with the coffee cup holder that came out when you pushed a button, but that it was too flimsy to withstand her heavy mugs, and had broken off.

ha ha too funny....once when I worked in customer service I was helping troubleshoot a client's printer problem over the phone...we couldn't get anywhere because she was a foreigner and maybe she didn't understand my language because every time I asked her to tell me what she saw on her screen, she would answer that she didn't live anywhere near a stream!

If someone doesn't have a retail backup software...there are online services that will allow you to transfer your computer information to their secure servers for a small fee...

I myself have always found it weird that such small computers like laptops often cost double what a desktop pc would cost. Portability sure is expensive.

Vista has it's share of problems....it wasn't even compatible with my monitor for the first six months after I bought my computer...it was constant driver errors until Vista came round to supporting it lol
